Paul Battes Profile

Paul is a British Goldsmith based in the Cotswolds.

He is passionate about early 20th century Russian art and design and is inspired by the strong geometric shapes used in the architecture and sculpture of this period. Paul is also inspired by objects that exhibit movement or flow in their structure, be it a sinuous contour or the repetition of a single element.

Paul’s collections feature wearability alongside innovation in design and are constructed abiding by the principle of ‘form follows function’. He takes pleasure from working with the finest quality materials possible and strives to exploit their natural attributes. Paul is intrigued by the way in which precious metals can be manipulated and draws upon diamonds and pearls to enhance the structures he creates.

Although each of Paul’s collections are exclusive in their design, they are all characterised by quality of craftsmanship and materials as well as the purity of line, movement and flow that form the common thread to his work.

Paul has won numerous awards, including the Tahitian Pearl Trophy Pendant award in 2008 and the Silver award at the 2011 Craftmanship & Design Awards in the Fine Jewellery Section.  Paul's work can also be viewed on the Goldsmiths' Who's Who in Gold and Silver Website.
